Text:  Haggai 1:1-9; 2:1-15/ Zechariah 4:1-14

Do you have a project you wish to accomplish this year or next year? Before you begin, there is something you need to first consider.  If you fail to consider it, your project might end in ruins.

Most fruitful projects encounter these three common setbacks or challenges:

• Lack of resources
• Spiritual or physical opposition
• Fear of the unknown

You may have encountered one or all of them.

Maybe you failed to consider what I’m about to reveal to you in this article.

Misplaced priorities!

After the returned from exile, the children of Israel sort to rebuild the temple of God that was destroyed during the Babylonian reign and captivity.

They encountered all these three challenges.

The project started and was halted for about 16 years (Ezra 4:1-5) when the people become fearful of surrounding enemies—foreigners who opposed their efforts.

During this period, they concentrated on their own affairs and built beautiful homes for themselves.

The temple of God didn’t seem to be a matter of priority to them anymore because they had wrongly concluded that it was not yet time for them to rebuild the temple (Haggai 1:2).

God had to step in and revealed to them that the temple must be built and completed for His own Glory.

The servants assigned to deliver this message to Israel were Haggai and Zechariah.

The purpose was to encourage the Israel to put the things of God first else they’d continue to suffer great loss in their own affairs.

How often are you tempted to put your projects first ahead of the things of God?

Your projects are blessed when God is in it. If you fail to consider God first in your projects, you will labour in vain.

God blesses shows up in your projects when you put Him first before your own pleasures and affairs.

If you put God first in all your projects, He will accomplish them for you even in fear, opposition or resource scarcity.

Conclusion

Your projects are blessed when God is in it.

Do not despise small beginnings (verse 10). The Lord will accomplish your projects by His power and by His spirit (verse 6).

Your intelligence, cleverness, skills and money cannot surpass Gods’ power in helping you accomplish your own projects.

The necessary resource for God’s work is the Holy Spirit. All other resources come second. We are to rely on the Holy Spirit to supply our needs.

God will educate you by your little works to do greater works.
